What are your concerns about hiring freelancers?

Question

When considering hiring a freelancer, especially a writer, what are your concerns? What do you look out for? What helps you to make a decision on who to hire? Why would you choose to hire one person over another?

I'm doing some research - the more details the better!

Concerns about hiring freelancers

1. Inability to meet deadlines
They may submit articles late.
2. Plagiarism
They may lift something from somewhere and before you know it, you're slapped with a plagiarism suit.
3. Lack of confidentiality
The freelancer may use the article he wrote for you as a sample of what he can do when looking for work with other companies.
4. Lack of availability
If he also freelances for others, he may not be available when you want him.
5. Repeating what he wrote for someone else
He could just tweak an article he's written for someone else and submit it to you. He could claim it's not plagiarism cos he wrote the original article, but it wouldn't be original to your readers who've read the original already.

But the solution is fairly simple: Don't use them again.
