Refer to the Commandment Thou Shalt Not Murder(Kill), and Christians will refer you to many verses where God says to kill.
Refer to Loving, and Christians will refer you to verses that say Hate your enemies, etc. Refer to peace, and Christians will refer you to verses that say Make War, Refer to the new covenant and Christians will quote Jesus saying he didn't come to change anything from the old teachings (OT).
No wonder we have so many Christian denominations, since the Bible is chockful of contradictions proving it is nothing but a bunch of personal opinions of various writers having nothing whatever to do with the word of God. God would not be idiotic enough to contradict themself a thousand times over!

Killing has always been wrong no matter what your religion is. Also I truly think you got a point here but the only explanation I can give is that unfortunately a lot of people interpret the bible in the wrong way.

I would like to know who the so-called "Christians" are that you are talking to?? Please don't lump all of us into one group. As for the Bible, it is NOT contradictory if you read it as a whole. If you pick out single sentences out of context, you can make any book say almost anything you want it to say, including the Bible. The Bible doesn't contradict itself, people do. This is a book that was written by over 40 separate and inspired authors spanning approximately 1500 years. They were all from different walks of life and occupations, yet it lines up perfectly from Genesis to Revelation. Hundreds of prophecies made in the time of the Old Testament were fulfilled in the time of the New Testament . That would be impossible if it were not inspired. It is archeologically and historically accurate. No other religion or faith can claim that about their holy books. If you actually take the time to do some real and unbiased research, you will find that to be true. Many throughout history have tried to debunk it. None have succeeded, and many were converted to Christianity in the process. The existence of God cannot be proven absolutely, but cannot be disproven absolutely either. God planned it that way to leave room for faith. I pray that you find yours.

Ask yourself this - if we have so many people who follow a self-contradictory Bible that it *matters* whether it's worthless or not, what sort of mess would we be in if they didn't have a Bible to follow?

"God would not be idiotic enough to contradict themself a thousand times over!" - quite probably true, but perhaps the *real* point is that if it was all obvious and logical and self-explanatory, there would be no room for Faith.

Love the post & hate it just the same ! You are so Fu*king true!
However to bring your ego down a little dont crack on the Bible dude , that sh*t just ain't cool ya dig? Second when you think of the contents of the Bible , think principally after all it WAS written and rewritted by people with control issues, addictions, etc(you get the pic) so principally speaking the Bible was,is,and always will be the Humans Handbook for those FEW who are intelligent enough to pick it up ,strong enough to try and courageous enough to follow its contained PRINCIPALS !
Anytime I need advice I read my Bible ,when I want OPINIONS I come here! After all advice is worthless unltil applied .

For number one, God says "Don't MURDER." Murder is the crime of deliberatley killing someone, but when you are supposed to kill someone in a war or for self defense, etc, that's a totally different thing.

Number two, not all Christians are like that...I don't know what you've experienced.

The bible is a better book than any other one on this Earth! It does not contradict itself. It's you who is messed up.

I actually think that you have been asking the wrong Christians, and sad to say that some Christians don't even read the bible so they don't even know really what they believe. Except the part where it says believe in the Lord Jesus and you shall be saved! that's the most important part anyways!

look at it like this if you believe and at the end of your life it isnt true then what have you lost? whereas if it is true at the end of your life what have you gained will be everything.
this is the only way I myself can deal with the many seeming contradictions. I think much of these are due to the many translations down through the years, and to this we will never figure them out so its either hope/believe,and perhaps we will win all the goodness there is to win or donot believe and loose it all either way we want know til we're dead. So why fuss over it now?

Perhaps God is not an idiot, and wishes the readers of the Bible to use the intelligence they were graced with to read and find pathways to come closer.

Worthless is as worthless does.

Its not the Bible that contradicts It's self but it is mankind that contradicts it's self on interpreting the facts written in It.
