Do the belt anyway--if you do not remember doing it--it needs to be done--they don't last forever and the squeel is actually causing friction and that will cause heat--and that will break the belt and cause further problems costing a lot more money--the belt is serpentine and the tension wheel should be done also. Cost?? maybe 100 for everything---but all cars need work eventually--go to a good shop and get it done.

Sounds like a belt. Get the right belt and put it on. There should be a diagram under the hood on the routing of the belt.

If the belt is old, replace it. Usually you only get about 5 years before they're worn out. It's not very expensive.

Belts usually don't make noises. Worn belt's do cause other parts to wear out though. Sounds like your water pump pulley is going . Better get it checked out.
