I say no just because Manny's days are numbered. 35 years old and on the downside of his career. Maybe though.

Well, he certainly has a shot, but he has to have a better season that this year to get it. As the gentleman stated a few places above, he doesn't get many chances with the bases loaded.
Also, I'd look out for A-Rod. He is in his prime, has several more great years left and already has 16 at age 32. I think he will own the record in the next few years.
I am wondering why this got a thumbs down. It's the truth. Manny only plays when he wants, and A-Rod is having a monster career, even better than Manny. No matter if Ramirez does pass Gehrig, A-Rod will eventually pass Manny, it's the truth, deal with it.

I sure hope so. Records are made to be broken; records SHOULD be broken. Gehrig's slam mark has stood for over 70 years, and it's such a small number -- and yet only Manny has come close. It's an opportunity-driven thing, and Ramirez hasn't bother taking any opportunities for the past month.
He's got another year in Boston and he's still a power hitter, so if he gets chances with the bases loaded (wherever he ends up after 2008), then -- well, certainly he CAN do it, he only needs four more (which really is a lot). No way to predict with any accuracy though.

Manny Ramirez, still has left one more year with Boston, and you never know what could happen next year.New pitchers that hasn't pitch to Manny yet plus a long season of (162) games to play. If he stays healthy and gets hot batting like a maniac of coarse remember this "bull" is only 35yr old. Don't forget that the" Boston Reds ox" is a team that gets on base easily and quickly,Big papi isn't the only one who could finish a game by a swing,Manny is a born "KILLER" he could make a team look silly with those kilometers homers ! DON'T FORGET THAT PAL !

Well he's 3 for 9 this year with a double, which is on par with his .335 average for his career. He averages about 13 BL at bats a season. So if he didn't miss the last 24 games he may have been closer to that number. I think he might tie it, I doubt that he'll break it.
He's also the type of player that may just retire after this contract. If he's healthy, he'll finish next season with around a .310 lifetime average, over 500 HRS, over 500 doubles, 1700 RBI and over a 1.000 OPS (which would be 10th all time) .590 SLG (8th all time). Not a bad career

I consider Scooter. I do ask your self what number grand slams A-Rod acceptable now could have in case you skipped over any he hit whilst a Texas Ranger, on the grounds that those have been the three years he admitted to employing steroids, asserting he did not use something with the Mariners or Yankees.

Hard to say. He doesn't get a lot of shots with the sacks packed with Papi hitting in front of him.

I hope not. He's nowhere near the player that Lou Gehrig was.
