I have witnessed the birth of life as well as the cessation of earthly life. Both are remarkable extremes. Both are very touching moments that bring immense emotion, relief, and in some cases, pain.

I would say that watching my friends' son being born had to be the most touching of all because of several reasons. I lent my home to their care. While watching the crest of the baby's head and subsequent birth was, by far, the most remarkable and emotional periods of my life. I let Kathy hold my hand while giving birth to this over 8 lb baby boy, named Aaron Jared. She literally crushed every bone in my hand, yet I was so engrossed in the birth that it didn't matter at all. I could only appreciate and awesomeness, the strength of this new mother, and how she went through the entire procedure with courage, emotion, raw power, and love. I was with her actually more than her husband was. I saw the maternal instincts in her well before the birth, on how she pampered and cared for herself, and prepared for this eventuality, this miracle of life.

Aaron is now in Officer Candidate School in Virginia, and has goals to become an Army officer, and also to study to become a doctor. The last time I saw him was after I had spoken of his birth at his father's funeral. That's where the extreme emotion enters in: Birth, life, and death.

Probably just helping the people in need at the Friendly Kitchen: serving them their dinner, giving them their drinks, offering them a second refill and trying to be as nice as possible! ^_^
