I have a '99 Acura Integra GS-R and am having problems with it. The car starts up intermittently, starts up more than it doesn't. When it does start up, if you push the gas pedal down too much, it bogs, and if you hold it down too far for too long it will die. When it dies, the intake will make a strange noise like its choking and trying to suck a lot of air. It idles fine, and if you push the gas pedal down slowly, RPM's will keep rising without issue. I have been working on it for a few days to see what it could be, I have new spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel pump, o2 sensor, oil filter, oil, its full with gas, its not the intake, throttle body or tbs sensor, my distributor worked fine on another integra, the timing is right, it's not the cat, the check engine light is on, engine codes read trouble codes 22 and 67, according to the service manual, it means VTEC system malfunction and catalytic sytem efficiency below threshold. Any ideas of what it may be or other things to check?

Everything is fine---except--- you have two obvious dtc's, vtec systm malfunction, this is the system that controls the valve timing and catalytic system efficiency below threshold. O2 sensor ?? you have at least two. if twin cats then you have four. There is an O2 sensor before the cat and after the cat. An O2 code doesn't mean change the sensor it means the sensor has detected a problem in your emission system. NEVER replace a part till you know the problem. You say it's not the cat but you have a cat trouble code. All your time and effort and you accomplished nothing. You should listen to the trouble codes and do what they tell you. v tec system and cat. system.

Maybe the Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control sensor or sensors that actuates the valve timing is going south. Therefore it could lead to a malfunction of the Cat.

Check cables and connectors. Make sure they are tight and clean. If all checks out, look for the sensors.

the knocking may well be a piston hitting the cylinder wall. the ticking is likely your valves you like the two extra appropriate oil, a valve adjustment or a sparkling head. the smoke popping out may well be in basic terms be that your valve conceal gasket is undesirable and the smoke is in basic terms from the warm oil.
