follow anywhere but texas lead w/the inst cluster removed i have tapped with a small hammer while jiggleing and twisting key to get switch into position 1. this has worked for me many times but when it doesn't you have a royal pain to deal with and is best left to a professional at this point as the lock Will have to be destructively removed with out damaging anything else around it. as for the thin wire tool i have always used a set of torch tip cleaners

If your switch isn't turning, you're in trouble. The fix is involved, and not very pretty. You can find it here:

Before you give up, spend some time trying to worry the switch with your key. Sometimes, you can wobble it into the first position. As long as the holes line up, removing the mechanism is a simple matter of inserting a stiff wire in each hole and pushing, while you pull back with the key. If you can get the tumbler out, you may be able to save it with this procedure:

Listen to doc just a sinner. There is a way into this without locksmiths and drills. I don't remember what it is, but all or most MB ignition switches from the late 1970s to late 1980s or so are the same.
Almost any MB forum on the net is likely to have the method in the archives. I think it is in the MB coupes archives from some years ago.

your best bet is tro call your local auto locksmith, , i had to do the sa,me for my 1993 subaru legace,, cost me 50$ but of course i had already bought a new ignition switch to put in,, that cost me an additional 85$ still not bad considering i already messed mine up by tryin to remove it without the proper tools to begin with,,,, my best advise to you on thios mater buy your own switch and have a pro remove anwd re install it for you, at least you wont cause any damage to your own car and it will be done right the first time,, good luck,,,

You may need to use a drill to remove the tumblers so you can turn it to position 1.

you can't drill tumblers out of a 300 SD there is a hardened plate on top you will have to remove that first than you can drill it or you will just burn your drill bits.
