hey, so i'm going to switch form Dial up to DSL. Can anyone tell me some advantages of DSL besides the speed? Does DSL actually let you you to use the phone while still online, not like dial up which has to use the line to go on the internet.? Oh and I plan on buying the basic dsl service from AT&T.

Thanks

Typically you can use the phone while on DSL. There is a device they put on your phone line which filters out unwanted noise. That gets complicated. But overall, having DSL should be a hassle free, easy way to connect once everything gets ironed out.

You'll probably have issues during installation, but just bear with AT&T and it'll get working in no time.

I agree with the person who said you will never want to go back to dial up again.

You can talk on the phone with DSL, and it is much faster than dial up, but if possible, I recommend cable. The fastest DSL speed (which is the priciest) is just about as fast as cable. Plus, my cable company offered me a fantastic deal on my cable and internet (for the next six months, it is actually CHEAPER to have internet and cable then when I just had cable...weird, huh?)

Besides being faster, yes, DSL lets you talk on the phone while online, which is great.

I'm not familiar with AT&T's package, but I'm sure the basic will work out great for you, especially coming from dial up.

Yes, DSL lets you use the phone while online.

I understand, however, that there are several speed levels of DSL, and only the fastest is as fast as cable. But I am not sure about that.

DSL is faster and you can use the phone while online. All you have to do is use the filter that comes with the AT&T packet. You'll like it and never want to go back to dialup again.

Yes, DSL has all those advantages over dialup. Speed, performance, browse and use the phone, etc.

You don't have to disconnect from the internet to use the phone with DSL.
