instead of having the name of the game and the characters, but nothing else is the same? I.E. Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, come on name some more I know just about everyone can. Bravo to Doom though. I didn't care much for the movie, but they kept to the tradition of the game for the most part.

I beg to differ. Most of the game to movie translations are terrible at best. It would be close to impossible to make a movie follow a video game story line. Especially, when our gaming experience depends partially on immersion. I think God of War has the potential of becoming an excellent movie. The key is to find a decent director that can handle it. The plot is solid and will need very little work.
On the contrary, the silver screen has been cursed by it's fair share of garbage.Super Mario Brothers with Bob Hoskins. Mortal Kombat, Bloodrayne, House of the Dead actually integrated the video game into some of the scenes, Silent Hill. I provided the link that lists the top 10 worst videogame movies.
