Lower end you must be refering to the smaller ones such as the three series. Depends on the options you have added. Unless you can drive an manual, a steptronic transmission is a 1300 dollar option. You could possibly drive off the lot paying mid thirties.

The three series sedan starts in the low 30s. As you add options it can quickly get into the mid and upper 30s.
Go to the BMW web site and spec a car yourself for the prices.

The 3 series four door sedans, just bare bones, start in the lower 30k.
But a completely bare bones 3 series still has more standard on it than most cars in it's class.

BMW has a 1 Series due out this year for around $27,000. The price hasn't officially been released but several reputable websites say that will be about what the average buyer will pay.

The 3-Series is the lowest priced one you can get. The 3-Series has the best resale value out of any car in its class. Its a worth buy. The one that I have is a 2003 325xi with 65000 miles and has been in one minor collision. I will get about $15000, trade in and $17000 private party value. If you want to buy dealer lot, expect around $21000. It you are shopping on more of a budget, go for the Saab 9-3. You can get one with 15000 miles for about $16000.
