my mom used to keep the keys of spam cans (i no longer eat spam... so no comments on that one, please) on the the ledge of the door frame of each door. though some may have an internal "button", most of the ones i've seen have a slotted post (axle?)... so when you put your 'key' or small, flathead screwdriver in that slot and turn it like you would a regular key...

You can stick a small allen wrench or something that is strong or solid and will fit in the hole and go at least 2 or 3 inches, keep it in the center of the door knob, and there is a little button or plunger inside that hole, that should depress and unlock the door, but you have to hit it just right.

What I have found that work:
16 penny nail
wooden skewer
Precision screwdriver
Wooden scewer - blunt end
I used to keep a nail in the kitchen drawer just for this purpose. When the kids locked the doors, I could grab the nail and quickly unlock.

Take a nail or a straightened coat hanger and poke it right into the middle of the keyhole. You should feel like a raised part. When you poke this, turn the knob and it should open.

Lots of good answers. I'll add my two cents. Most locks like that don't strictly need to be TURNED as if you were using a key. You can also try a paper clip,,,especially the larg size, much like what's stated to open the CD drawer on a laptop when the button won't work.

A small flat blade screw driver. Just use one that fits into the hole and very carefully keep it centered. As soon as you touch the screw gently turn the screw driver while applying light inward pressure until you feel it slip into the slot and then turn it 90 degrees. I keep one small screwdriver on the top molding of the doors that use this type of lock for just such purposes.

Get a metal coat hanger and straighten out the curved end that goes on the rack. You will have to play with the lock a little, but it will pop open.

A wooden skewer will work on the ones that have the little internal button.

bend a hanger straight. you have to push in a button and turn the knob at the same time. The place you have to push should be near the center.
