Boy Scouts have contributed to Environmental Science by fostering a familiarity and appreciation of the natural environment among its members, some of whom (like me) may choose careers through which they may make their own direct contributions.
Boy Scouts have also contributed directly to conservation of the natural environment by maintaining reserves at various locations in the United States and other countries.

The Boy Scouts promote environmental awareness through their merit badges and service projects. Environmental Science is a badge that is required for Eagle Scout.
The William T. Hornaday medal is presented to Scouts who show outstanding dedication to conservation.
Scouts of all ages are encouraged to earn the World Conservation award.
Each year, one Eagle Scout is selected to intern at the south pole research station.
BSA's emphasis on Environmental Science and conservation helps the members understand and work to improve their world.
