If, eventually, the Universe is going to be destroyed in some Big Rip, Crunch, Freeze, Burn, Bounce, or something of that nature, why does the physical Universe exist? Does it have meaning? Do our lives have meaning? What's the point of being kind to one another of it doesn't get you anywhere?

If the Universe is finite, and we are finite, why are we here?

Sh@t happens. As National Lampoon said, "You are a fluke of the Universe and whether you know it or not, the Universe is laughing behind your back."

The story is that a scientist is talking about the sun going red giant in 5 billion years. A man leaps to his feet and says, "How long?" "Five Billion years." The man sits down and says, "thank goodness, I thought you said million years."

Does it matter? If this is all there is, live and love it. If there is more, wonderful. Just remember, none of us are getting out of this world alive.

I've often wondered that myself, and the conclusion I've come to is that we live life simply to live it. There is so much to learn from the earth and each other; so many mysteries yet unsolved.

And there is so much to do in the world, so much to experience. Family, school, marriage, careers, etc. Sometimes, I think of the world as something with a huge goal to be achieved. For centuries, humans have been trying to solve the mysteries and problems of the world. We build off of what others have discovered or worked on before us.

Being kind to each other does get us somewhere. It gives us insight to what others are feeling and we learn to feel empathy. By being kind to one another, we not only make them feel better, but we feel better inside as well. It can be difficult to explain, but when you look at the world around you, how can you feel that our lives are pointless?

Read the bible, or any philosopher of your choice. Then ask yourself, what is the meaning of life(wait...you've just done that, but not used the phrase).

Then do a Yahoo!Answers search on "what is the meaning of life" and read the 5 million responses to the 4 million of those questions asked.

I think the point of life is the same as purpose of life.

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (Nobel Laureate, mathematician and philosopher)

Without God, there is no point, no purpose, no meaning. This ought to drive us to seek God.

But if we reject God, then we're driven to invent something to do that will make us feel good about ourselves (boost our ego) and/or keep us busy so we won't think about our pointless existence. Then we have to deceive ourselves into thinking that our invented "purpose" is real. It doesn't appear that you are good at self deception.

Maybe we should just consider that none of us 'chose' to be here. Ergo; we can call it a curse or a blessing. I choose blessing, trying to remember along the way to smell the roses and taste the nectar.
That's reason enough for me.

Personally, I don't think that the spiritual realm has an ending, and I don't believe there will ever be a time that we cease learning and growing.
