I have a 4 week old baby bearded dragon, he eats well, and seems healthy except when he is basking or being held, he falls asleep a lot, or at least closes his eyes. Is this nornal? How much should they sleep, other than at night?

They have the same sleep and wake cylce as humans 50%awake and 50%asleep,Its probably tired from hunting crix. or if not try bathing it they like that better, about shoulder level of water and if u have it electrodyze(electrolytes)from exo terra add a couple of drops and it should give strength and appetite back to ur reptile.

Bearded Dragon Sleeping A Lot

Yes, they do sleep a lot. Just make sure his setup is correct as far as substrate (nothing loose), temp (105F) at basking (use a digital probe thermometer), UVB (reptile only and change every 6 months), crickets no bigger than the space between his eyes, vet checked for parasites (very common and a big health problem), etc. Most beardies spend the majority of their days basking/resting. They are not very active. :)

the thing is with aussie lizards they need to recharge, thats why they bask so sleeping naturally occurs when they bask. Once recharged or full of heat they'll move around. dont worry about it its natural. Also sleep is one of the most natural ways to grow so since hes a baby he'll sleep alot. Just be happy and be a good mate.

there is an unique vet in fairly a lot each and every state. I assure and not utilising a vet this beardie will die. you will ought to commute even though it is well worth it. slumbering a lot and not ingesting are signs and warning signs of disease, possibly parasites nevertheless not definitively, factor is, this beardie desires a vet ASAP

yes they do "rest" quite a bit, as far as actual lights out time, it should be 14 hours of light/heat/uvb and 10 hours of total darkness and no heat/uvb...as long as the temp doent drop below 65f...and all the other stuff kimbee said!
