it all depends on ur situation. if u REALLY want to have one done now all u have to do is say u dint know how far along u are and u cant remember ur last period lol it will work trust me!
but a lot of the time an ultrasound is only done around 18 weeks unless ur doctor feels the need to do other ones. there's a 12 week ultrasound that can be done as well its called a Nuchal Translucency or Early Anatomy Ultrasound it checks baby for things like down syndrome.
Just ask ur doctor and if u dint like his/her answer request to have it sooner.. chances of him/her saying no is slim.
good luck and congrats!

Sometimes they will give you one your first appointment to see how far along you are... I just so happened to be 18 weeks my first appointment. I then had my next sonogram at 20 weeks... and a follow up at 23 weeks, because some of the pictures weren't very clear. It really mostly depends on your insurance, whether your doctor thinks it is medically necessary or not, and if there is a sonogram machine in the actual office. For the most part, they won't send you for a sonogram before 18-22 weeks. They usually just listen to the heartbeat, etc.

Most insurance companies only pay one unless there is a reason to have more. If you're only doing one many get it done around 20 weeks to tell the gender as well. Some doctors do one right away and one about mid way it really depends on your doctor. I'll have my first at 22 weeks but my midwife wants one every 4 weeks after that to moniter the babys growth.

I think it depends on your risk of disease and pregnancy problems. If your first pregnancy was uneventful, then the doctor usually does it between 3 and 5 months. With my first child, I was 5 months, with my twins it was at 3 months and continuously throughout, and with my last, it was at 5 weeks, and almost every visit. Different doctors, different testing. And insurance plays a big role in how many ultrasounds you are "allowed".

They wanted me to get an ultrasound at 8 weeks, but I refused. I got one at 22 weeks when I could confirm the sex of the baby.

Usually around 12 weeks, but it's only a peanut at that point.
The big ultrasound where you can tell the sex is at about 5 months.

Usually it's at 12 weeks. I had mine done at 9 weeks & 1 day due to my hcg levels dropping but the baby is fine and we could see it's little heart beating away. Then you have another one at 16 weeks.
