to recomment to a friend. She has been dealing w/ an out of control, drug addict, alcoholic son for almost 10 years now. She has tried to get him help but nothing has worked so far. This is really affecting her everyday life and it would be great if someone that has gone through a similar situation could recommend a place where she, herself can get counseling to deal with this issue.

Thanks :)

Yes, your friend can attend Alanon meetings which is a support group for people whose lives have been affected by an alcoholic... Also Narcotics Anonymous has "open" meetings.. i'm sure your friend can find meetings of this type in her community or nearby.

Both Alanon and Narcotis Anonymous have websites for more info.

take care.

"Tough love" from people who don't love you is called abuse.

I saw a few friends get involved with The Seed and Straight, Inc, two of the original "tough love" "support groups":

Try finding a local psychologist who specializes in Albert Ellis's REBT.

Any chapter of your local Al-Anon would be a good starting point.
