i had a 1936 ford convertable that got good mileage. it was not a big problem because most drives were a short distance. in those days a 100 mile drive was a long trip. you got your sticker based on past mileage. business people got more fuel than pleasure.towns were much smaller so your commute was only 3 or 4 miles at the most. i lived in houston tex. population about 250,000.in early 1942 . joined naval aviation and was away to war for 4 years so no worry about fuel.

I don't think this affected my family much. I had asked about it, but they were farmers, and had gasoline. There were ration books, of which I have one, and I have some v mail and maybe e mail (if memory serves me) of letters mu uncles wrote to my aunt during the war. These were photographs of letters, but greatly reduced in size...i suppose they weighed less for shipping.
