Why do many Americans think that the Civil War was fought over slavery and that Lincoln really cared about Africans? He was prejudice against Africans himself and the Civil War was fought to save the Union.

He didn't actually care about them, though.

Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which did provide freedom for those slaves within the states in rebellion (some of Northern states continue to have slave laws on the books during the war). Slavery was not formally abolished until the passage of the 13th Amendment.

Lincoln had to lead a unpopular war. He had more success rallying public support by emphasizing the constitutional issue (the Southern states did not have the right to leave the union) rather than the moral issue of slavery, since many Americans, northern or southern, did believe that blacks were inferior to whites.

The Emancipation Proclamation was a tentative first step, but an important one, and clearly an act that took great political courage, which is why Lincoln is revered among African Americans.

I'm sorry Kayluv, but your viewpoint is not correct. Lincoln opposed slavery, but did not feel it was in his constitutional power to ban it. Take a look at this letter he wrote in 1864 which defines his position.

at the start, shall we call them Blacks. African individuals are individuals that have been born in Africa, and that doesn't describe the inhabitants you're describing. Now, on on your question. Why do they predominantly vote democrat? because of the fact they desire loose stuff, and democrats have a a lot extra advantageous predisposition to vow spending taxpayer funds on welfare, nutrients stamps, etc. whilst maximum persons of people will vote for the guy they sense will do the main suitable job for the country, black electorate are out for themselves, and don't care on the subject of something of the country or each and every individual else. basically in basic terms slightly of background: After the civil conflict while each and every of the slaves in the south have been given their freedom, the living house slaves on the plantations had a bent to maintain working and draw a revenue. regrettably, the sector slaves have been maximum persons and that they hand a extra greater tendency to refuse to paintings whilst waiting for to be fed, clothed, housed, etc besides. Why? because of the fact in the event that they weren't dealt with they accomplished campaigns of destruction, destroying plant life and fields, polluting wells, killing farm animals, burning looting, etc. not something a lot has replaced. maximum persons of blacks nevertheless desire some thing for not something, whilst there's a small problematical working minority that are keen to paintings problematical for, and earn what they desire.

He was under pressure to preserve the union and many in congress were abolitionists but you are right he only freed the slaves after the war had raged for a little over two years and he did that to disrupt what was left of the Souths economy and to cause havoc internally in the south.

You are really stupid. Abraham Lincoln risked his life and his "popularity" to HELP the African Americans. He declared war on the freaking South! How can you say that he DIDN'T care about them?! Abraham Lincoln dedicated his entire life to helping the blacks. He was a great man.

And if you still don't agree, answer this: Where would we be now if not for him?

It's because most American History classes give you the watered down, AMERICA IS AWESOME, version of the past. You have to take more advanced classes to learn the truth.

He mainly did it to undermine the workforce of the south.
