Superhero - Flaming Carrot
Non-fiction - I have many people in my life who I consider heroes:
there are several people I admire. There are also many traits I admire.
There is the neighbor who knew what was right and challenged me to decide to pursue that course of action.
There is the friend who helped me to laugh and look for the humor in things.
There is the man who showed me that sacrifice is one of the great acts of love.
There is the woman who taught me to stand up for what I believed.
There was the neighbor who demonstrated the joy of simple pleasures.
There is the teacher who exemplified trust – trust in self and in others.
There is the woman who instilled the truth of honesty and integrity.
There is the friend who displays duty and honor in many, if not all, aspects of life.
There is the companion whose unconditional love motivates and inspires.
The man who makes evident that ‘wisdom’ and ‘knowledge’ are not the same – he is wise.
There is the friend who is faithful, even at great personal loss.
There are the friends who live so that kindness and encouragement are their habits.
There is the friend who shows that service to others is better rendered out of love rather than out of obligation.
There are those that I admire for their cooking ability, those that I admire for their music talent, those that I admire for their writing skill, those that I admire for their speaking style, those that I admire for their artistic gifts.
There is, however, one person that sticks out in my mind when I hear the word “admire.”
This person showed me:
That there is strength in humility
That there is power in obedience
That ‘work’ and ‘love’ are not mutually exclusive terms – that, in fact, they are complimentary in accomplishing good things
That forgiveness heals
That boldness does not mean conceit
That dedication and devotion to a valiant cause is noble
That being receptive to the Holy Ghost leads us to our Heavenly Father
That faith cannot only move mountains but, more importantly, that it can move people
This person is Robert R Steuer.
I worked with this man for several months, on a daily basis. I have seen these traits (and many others) in action. I have learned and tried to apply these things in my life. These are traits I admire and respect, much of this comes from the example I have been shown of these characteristics in word and deed. The example of this man continues to shine before me even though it has been many years since we worked together.
I guess I have been abundantly blessed to have so many people in my life with qualities and characteristics that I admire --- or, perhaps it is because of who these people are that these qualities have become admirable.
I would hope that I might find myself in possession of some of these traits.
Thanks for the opportunity to think about this.
