My friends whirlpool and shower drain real slow and I noticed that the drain pipes (PVC) in the basement don't slope downwards but are fairly level and maybe even have a dip in the middle (not supported by hangers)---could this cause the drains to be slow and what slope is required for this per foot of run. Her drain pipes run about 8 - 10 feet from the shower to whirlpool and then 8-10 feet to the soil stack.
Thanks for any info.

drains are supposed to slope 1/4 of an inch for every 10 feet.

Probably the problem is just as you said ! The old rule of thumb used to be 1/4 inch per 10 foot of run ! Shorten the drain pipe that comes vertically off the tub if there is enough and get the pitch steeper ! Pipe has probably become full of built of soap and hair ! Might try some chems for a temp fix or hot hot water with some vinegar ! Good luck Peace

If it's always been slow then it may be the slope, but if it's just recently got worse, try a plunger both in the shower and the tub. Ours usually needs plunging about every 2-3 months then they both start draining well again.
