i dont think he would try to convert anyone, and i do think he is alive, in the sense of the spirit, and that his teachings live on in others
i dont recall Jesus saying anything about needing to be Christian, in fact Christianity came after his life here on earth, he is recorded as saying "if you can do nothing else, then love"
i believe in Jesus, yet i am not a follower of the Christian faith, due to exactly some of the points you mention,

Well there is no IF Jesus were alive, because He is alive. O'yes He did die on the cross - crusified by the Romans over 2000 years ago - but he rose again, He was seen by hundreds, and even thousands when he walked again on the earth, after his death, hundreds witnessed Him assend into the heavens, all this days after He died and was buried.
and He has talked to the Doli loma every day, just like He talks to every man woman and child on the face of the planet, but we are just deaf to His voice, it is a still small voice that speaks deep within our hearts. We have to take the time to learne and listen.
Now what would he say about the so called christian that do nothing to save mankind from itself - that is a simple answer - "be gone from me, for I know you not!" Not every one that professes they are a Christian is a Christian, you will know the real from the fake if you watch them, are they about themselve, or others, do they walk in love, or are they always condemning. Christ Jesus said that you would know His true followers by their love, true Christians help. but that does not mean they should be gulible.
now all those good people who are not Christians, those who help the earth, those who help others - they are not innocent - for every man and woman who walks the face of the earth are sinners, have sinned. they are not faultless, this is why Jesus - the only perfect man - Had to die, He paid the price that was required. So no matter how much good they do it cannot overwrite the bad they do, and believe me they do bad weather you see them or not. I heard a cop tell an inmate one time "The only difference between me and you is the fact that you got caught!"

Jesus loved the Dalai lama as well as the rest of the people you talk about enough to die for them. He loved Osama bin Laden enough to die for him. Would he try to convert him??? Hmmm, I suspect He would show by the example of His life that He is the Messiah.. The rest is up to us, including the Dalai Lama. He would speak the truth and leave it to us to believe.
