You'll really like it. It's about a girl, not much older than you, who lived in a town full of rednecks during WWII. She meets a German POW and falls in love, only to find out the realities of war. It's sweet and warm, but some parts get sad. In the end, you'll learn that life isn't always fair, but sometimes it is right.

I read it in 8th grade as well. From what I remember, it was an ok book. Girls tend to like it more than guys because it was mainly about a girl who likes this German soldier sent to her town as a POW during WWII. It was easy to understand so you won't have to worry about catching on. As for how interesting it is, that really depends on your point of view I suppose

I think I was in 8th grade when I read it. I recall liking it, at least. I think you'll be able to enjoy it.

As for historical fiction, I also remember a book called Waiting For Anya that I absolutely loved, but it might be a bit young for you.

I read that in 7th grade and thought it was a fairly easy read, so you won't have any trouble there. I really liked the book, it's sweet and endearing with good characters. So I don't think you'll want to put it down.

I liked it. I thought it was good because you could understand how the German POW thought.
