We are all bound by reality. We can choose many things. We can think and feel. We can interact with our environment. We cannot alter reality. We cannot change facts or history. If a substance is poisonous, then it remains so without regard to our will.
It's a two edged debate. Within the bounds of reality we have freedom to interact with our environment and others. We can choose to be happy. We can choose to be angry. We can choose many other things. We have that freedom. In the United States, we have other freedoms. We can choose to work. We can choose to starve. Some places don't allow such choices. Yet, anyplace yields to the freedom of our imagination. Iron bars and stone walls do not a prison make. As such, free will remains...within the bounds of the environment.
Don't give up on your dreams even if it seems that is all you have.

no, i dont think its an illusion
you create the person you become, you are doing this daily
much of this has to do with the choices you make, where you turn your interest
this doesnt mean there is a set plan, and that your efforts will always pay off in the way you wish for them to
also, what is the other choice? people use the term "free will" but are they saying the not having it free is having no will ? or "bondage will"? to me, in order to say something doesnt exist , especially freely, one needs examples of why it doesnt , we obviously do have will and choice, and no it doesnt have impact on the conditions we are born into, unless we believe we choose those conditions prior to birth, who we are is not who/what situation we are born as/into, so in the rich man example, yes, he would have a choice, no one is forced to be rich, they either freely choose it or give the money away
