Oh yes. That is definitely a choice. Unless, of course, you're a child or someone incapable of coherent thought, as in the mentally ill or some elderly folks. peace

There are basically two types of victims:
The first type are victims of unforeseeable circumstances: like train wreaks, airplane crashes, getting hit from behind on the freeway, etc. These types of victims did not create or encourage the circumstances that brought on their pain or death.
Then you have the type that are victims of preventable circumstances: like staying in an abusive marriage, over-eating when you know you shouldn't, driving under the influence when you know you shouldn't, etc.
These second class of types are often victims of their own making. Perhaps they subconsciously want to punish themselves for perceived wrongs. Or their low self-esteem does not let them believe that they deserve better than an abusive husband.
Do they 'need' to be victims? Of course not. But somewhere deep within their mind many believe subconsciously that they 'deserve' what happens to them or 'God is punishing them' or countless other excuses. So in order to permit or even encourage the circumstances where they will get 'punished' or get 'caught' they often make what are obviously the wrong choices.

Victimhood is partly perception. The victim rarely consider the type of person who has inflicted the suffering. There is nothing wrong with the person who has been victimized. The problem is that another person felt it was acceptable to treat another human being in that way.
If you find anyone in your vicinity who has hurt others, you may be next. That is about them and those are people who should be avoided. Don't allow yourself to be their next victim.

not sure what you mean, victims are victims due to the act done against them, do you mean remaining in a victim mentality? and letting that rule your life? no matter what, a victim will always be a victim of the particular act that happened to them , but they can move on and not allow it to impact their daily life

Only if there has to be a winner.
You need to have a victor to have a victim.
Someone has to best you and best you unfairly.
Of course, if no one sees you as a victim then, No.
