There is a pole in a lake. 1/2 of the pole is under ground, 1/3 of the pole is in the water, and 8 ft is above ground. How long is the pole? Please show your work, I am trying to help out a neighbor kid that is totally lost.

How much is below the water line?
1/2 + 1/3

So, how much is above the water line?
1-(1/2+1/3)
1-5/6
1/6

So 1/6 of the pole is 8 foot long.
The whole pole is 6 x 8 or 48 feet.
