This is during Fredericks Douglass time around 1830. Would you choose to be enslaved for your whole life and live, or taking the risk of dieing for your freedom.
Remember that running away as a slave is most likely being caught and killed.
Give your reasons why you would choose that

Personally I think it would make a difference as to whether I had a family or not. But also, part of the system was to keep the slaves uneducated and unaware of the world at large. So if you don't know what's 100 miles away, where do you run, where do you sleep, what do you eat (remember the slaves weren't use to living off the land in the wilds). I think it is very easy to second guess how one would react, given our education and hindsight. But knowing what I do and having lived the life I have so far, I say that it's better to die on your feet than live on your knees. Had I been born into a system that was designed to subjegate me and keep me ignorant, who knows.

Is peace so sweet that it must be purchased at the price of slavery? To those who think so, may their chains bear lightly upon their shoulders and may history forget that they were once our countrymen.

Better to die on one's feet than to live on one's knees.

"GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH", said Patrick Henry.

I might as well die if I loose my liberty.
