I want to get tickets to see the Late Show with David Letterman. Is it taped live at 11:30PM or is it earlier in the day? Also they say you have to answer a trivia question to get tix--anyone have an example of the question they ask?

It's taped at 5pm, although you have to be there at 3 or 3:30 to wait on line (I haven't been in a few years)
There are sometimes Late Show staff members on the street in the Times Square area, and if you notice them, you can ask them for tickets...they'll ask you a trivia question to get the tickets. Sometimes they'll go up to people themselves who are obviously tourists and give them a ticket.
But the most efficient way is to put in a request on the website, so you know when you're going to be there. Here is the link:

David tapes 5 shows in 4 days. It's 4:30 pm except on Tuesdays. Two shows are taped on Tuesday and one is not shown until Friday. The staff at the Late Show are super nice. I met one of the writers and it turned out we went to the same college. Questions are simple - like, who's President to something really off the wall. They're easy.

It's definitely taped earlier, during approximately mid-day, but I don't know the exact time.

it is taped at like 4pm. and i am pretty sure you just get put on a waiting list to get tickets.
