My school does not condone students to use routers nor do they allow students to use xbox live or online gaming services. although it is possible to connect a wired router to the network and play xbox live. though, eventually the school admin catches on and will limit your internet. is there a way to hide a wired router from network admins?

Not really.

The issue is that they can see that there is a huge amount of traffic coming from a particular interface, you can't hide that. That is enough for them to conclude that there is something to look into, they can then sniff the packets on your port and figure out what your doing. It will take a good network admin about 10 minutes to figure this out.

the router is probably undetectable... The ports used by xbox live aren't though. That's how they are catching you.
