I don't love things about getting older.

1- Don't need to follow fashion trends. That's not to say I dress in Bermuda shorts with dress socks, but I don't wear idiotically sized baseball caps sideways either. While I do care somewhat about image, I also don't care what the "Babes" are thinking about what I'm wearing. Which leads me to:
2- Don't have to play games with the opposite sex. None of that, "Does she like me? What should I say/not say? " I don't do the pursuit-thing either. I"m also not afraid to just talk to women. Life's too short...
3- I finally have the money, and general smarts to do what I want, when I want.
4- The stuff I thought was stupid in High School: Prom, Homecoming, dances etc: well IT IS!
5- As for College
6- HS reunions. Some excellent Schadenfreude to see the rectum Captain of the Football Team, who got the Lead Cheerleader pregnant STILL working at the Tire Store ("I'm the General Manager Now.") after 20 years.

Ah, most relevant to one my previous question here.
Wisdom and experience, sure.
Being able to cycle down the path with a shopping basket
Helping my kids with dodgy homework
Church bell ringing, for crying out loud.
Grumbling about world politics without being told that I am incorrect
Water skiing with folks more than half my age, and putting on a decent show of it.

The list is pretty long. I am all the way to 52, so not too old.
Yet I do free-fall parachuting, none of this "tandem" nonesense.
Long may this attitude prevail in those that are getting older

while the wisdom and confidence that comes with age is nice, sometimes i feel i have gone full circle, to get back to seeing things as clearly as i did when i was a teen,
i guess my overall view of life and people is a plus, my understanding comes from experience
but most of getting older is just that, getting older, working hard to maintain the things bodily that came natural in youth, sometimes having to work to keep an open mind, to not think you have seen it all, done it all, know it all etc
no one likes or loves the wrinkles part, the body fat part, the aging bones and joints part, the multiple responsibility part (for yourself today, children, aged parents, pets, and your future ) and sometimes the extra knowledge and wisdom can even be burdensome, such as deciding what to eat, lol ! most things today can be toxic, i am wise and know i should follow a heart healthy , body healthy diet, yet i am wise and know its a crap shoot, that healthy food i choose might contain e-coli

Semi-retirement is nice; a couple of really good friends to share it with-- learning not only that the present moment is a very important one to be aware of, but also having the place and time to be aware of them fully. No more blame games, very little strife in life...
I get like a Buddha and sit on the porch and laugh at moments that may cause others to look at me uncertainly; but I can even explain the moment and they understand! To have language, and I'm just talking about my own, a little more known each day so I can use it more wisely-- great trip! One I thoroughly appreciate, having used the truncated language of a journalist for some years, thank you very much. Now I'm a long-winded old geezer, it seems... at least on YA!

As I grow older I learn to appreciate life more, when we are young we take life for granted and we let opporutnity pass us by. Being older gives me the strength to know what mistakes I have made in the past, admit to them and try to change them. As a grown up now, with a family of my own. I take nothng for granted..tomorrow may just be another day, or it could be another day without someone you love..

Being older means making choices for myself.

I'm really starting to grow particularly fond of all of the extra ear hair. It keeps my ear canals warm and also blocks out all of the extraneous background noise.

The crows feet and prononced nasal avial folds are a close second.

I don't even mention the gray hair or saggy skin because I assume everyone loves those equally.

Not worrying about things that are not really important.Few things are worth getting in that much of a tizz about, as long as you and your loved ones are safe and well.Having lots of time to spend on the computer, my favourite toy. Not being on the endless hamster-wheel of work.Enjoying the beauty of the world and constantly learning new things even in one's old age. Having time and leisure to do the things I want rather than those I should.

The wisdom and experience only obtained from DOING life and living.
Caring FAR more about keeping warm when its cold and frosty than what I look like (idiot in thermal vest, woolly tights, hat, scarf and boots etc.)
Not having peer pressure like you do as a teenager desperate to "fit in"... now-a-days SOD fitting in, being normal and the same!

The thing I love about getting older is coming into myself more and more. I find out more about what I am capable of, what I am strong at and what I stand for. I get to know "me" better as I grow.
