Why doesn't Israel simply leave the West Bank (all of it), Gaza Strip, Arab East Jerusalem, Syria's Golan Heights and the Lebanese occupied lands (Shebaa Farms), so Peace can finally be achieved???? Why is that so hard to do???

Its clear that this what will make peace but instead, Israeli settlers are busy expanding their settlements in the Golan, West Bank, etc and the US Government is busy blindly supporting the Israeli side.

Israel says they want peace but want to keep the occupied lands. The Arabs say they want peace but want their lands back.

Arabs may be in violation of several UN Resolutions but Israel is in violation of over 70!

Thanks for your answers! :)

This is very simplified, but basically you have two completely different cultures whose ancestors have lived in the same areas for centuries. The governments of both cultures are guided/run by their religion. Their religion is their culture - it is at the very heart of who they are as a people.

This takes the situation way out of the realm of politics. When people believe they are doing what their divine being (no matter what form it takes) would want, it is more compelling than a political position.
Thus, the outcome is much more critical than 'who is going to run the country for the next four years.'

This sort of conflict is the exact reason the founding fathers of America (I am assuming you're an American) drafted the constitution the way they did. To keep politics and religion separate.

I'm sure Israel would be willing to abandon the various occupied territories if restoring that 40-years-past status quo were certain to bring peace. The fact that those territories were mostly siezed in wars innitiated by Arab states, however, makes that supposition far from certain. Clearly, the possession of those lands has not, in the past, been sufficient to allow Arabs to tollerate the existance of Israel.

Of course, things may have changed, but, it would be reasonable for the Arab world to demonstrate that such was the case. For instance, by ending the constant use of terrorist attacks against Israel...

Have you ever been mad at someone for doing you wrong? Imagine now that this person is responsible (directly or otherwise) for killing or maiming your best friend or cousin or father. I think this is the basic context for the people living in the region, and while the territorial and religious factors are key (especially for the people in power), the driving force for the common people is hate or an inability to forgive. How could I ever do any better when I still get angry about the bully who pushed me in 9th grade?

Israel can not survive if there is peace. If Jews and Arabs got along and their children started to intermarry, the Jews would be swallowed up in an Islamic sea. In a just a few generations there would be no more Jews.

Easy one!

It has been this way since Cain killed Able.

The Ismael and Jacob. was brothers,

then Ismael (Arabs) wanted His right to the Kingdom, because he was the Firstborn,

but His Dad Abraham said No, it belong to Jacob (Jewish State)

From that day they have hated each other, and killed each other.

That is the true story.

So how can you solve it?

by peace?

that word is not in their dictionary!

Give me a break, if not for the U.S. being involved with Israel, then Israel would have blown the middle east off the map years ago. This question sounds like the foreign version of giving in to terrorists to get them to end violence.

If there was peace, what would there be to whine about.
It's just a matter of time for Israel due to the falling birth rate.
why they wouldn't want to spend those years in peace, nobody knows

Where do you think they got that land. It was during a war that they didn't start or want and guess what, to the victor goes the spoils. If the Palestinians weren't happy then what makes you think they will be happy and content now? Grow up and wise up.
