appropriate etiquette might recommend that it is polite and mannerly to hold the door for a individual in the back of you. have you ever had somebody enable the door pass basically earlier you reached for the door cope with? Yes I do, and sometimes people appreciate it and other times people act as if they are entitled to have the door held open.

If it is a locked door (where you knock up to be let in)
then no - because the door is locked for a reason.
If it is a shop or public door - yes always.

yes i do ...all the time. i expect a simple thank you...i think that is common courtesy. if the person does not say thank you, i look him or her in the eye and say..."you're welcome!" i always say thank you when someone holds the door for me. i'm very big on manners.
