If for some insane reason Scotland's people decided not to become independent, then becoming the 51st State doesn't seem such a bad alternative. lol ;-)

think ofyou've have been given the approach incorrect. The Puerto Ricans themselves might desire to vote on no rely if or not they prefer to grow to be a state if Congress passes a regulation allowing it. Puerto Ricans have had quite a few votes via the years in this concern. Their innovations have been: a million.) self sufficient united states 2.) US State 3.) status quo (stay a territory) 3.) status quo has consistently gained via a huge margin. i don't understand why Congress is even dropping their time discussing and debating this concern. permit Puerto Rico come to Congress and tell them that the final public of that is electorate like it to be a state. somewhat, they don't!

Are the Americans going to invade then?

Scotland has its own Parliament, its own currency as well (even though the exchange rate is 1 to 1 and its accepted throughout the UK).

They are not under English control.

Neither. I don't like the USA or what it stands for, and at the moment we aren't under English control, which shows your poor understanding of the UK. The government at Westminster is the UK government, NOT the English one.

I would rather have independence for Scotland within Europe. We have far more traditional allies on the continent than we do here in the British Isles.

Well...gee...I live near Edinburgh...kinda. If I had to pick...well it goes like this:

England may have its nose in our buisness more often than we'd like, but at least they aren't global terrorists masquerading as some kinda crusaders for a "world democracy," peace and justice while exploiting lord knows how many people.

English Govt: Just plain numptys

51 state: ruled by numptys that worship a retarded Satan in a cowboy hat.

That's a daft question!.. 51 state hahahah. jeez can you imagine Alic Salomond talking down to George Bush? in self righteous sanctimonious clap trap manner that he has.
oh my god i wish i could be a fly on the wall of such a meeting.. specially because Alic salmond hates the war on terror and the continuing wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Oh and by the way.. Scotland wants freedom from the oppressive English!.. self determination and closer ties with Europe!..

Scotland, as part of the UK is already getting EU payments.

Also, if given a choice, the Scotish would rather be independent.

As for the Scots, as part of the UK, they get free health care, as part of the USA, that would go, remember that the life expectancy and infant mortality rates in the USA are higher than that of the UK and also that of Scotland. As part of the UK, they have much lower crimes rates than in the USA with a lower murder rate.

So, if they had to chose, with that information, who would YOU chose?
