It depends on the people who get it and why they get it. I know people on BOTH ends of the spectrum. PERSONALLY, I need it for HELP, and no way in hell do I want to be on this sh*T the rest of my life. I don't want this for my kids. I KNOW I deserve better, as do my kids.
I know people who have kids because they get more money, but still, I would rather make $400 every week(which still isn't sh*T) with a good job(and that includes a fast food joint, at this point) than make that every two weeks being on welfare. It sucks. It does. I am grateful for it, but I hate it. I don't understand how anyone can get comfortable on it. This is no way to live.
For the record, I'm on my mother's computer and internet service.

I think it depends on the person receiving it. If they have some sort of ambition for themselves and don't feel right about accepting handouts they don't really need then they'll use the assistance to help themselves become independent. If they're just a lazy slob who doesn't want to have to work for a living then it will become a lifelong dependence for them.

In varies with different people and lifestlyes....I have known people that are/have been on welfare and some have used it as a way to mooch and be lazy and then there were others that really needed the help and tried to better themselves....I think that it all depends on the person and their intensions when they get it !!!!!!

I think it works both ways..........I knew several who would live on welfare alone if they could. And I knew some others that were totally broke before they would ever apply........and that includes food stamps. It depends on the individual. And yes some of it is generational. They live the way they grew up and that was normal

I see it everyday it's a Dependence because the folks I see who have it have more jewelry then Mr T and drive a way better car then the Boss.
Sad ! because those who Really need the assistance don't qualify.

Dependence. It becomes a way of life. I'm not blaming anybody. It just works out that way.
