There is a problem in the system. It could be an impact sensor, pcm or a simple ground. If the car has recently had an alignment maybe the clock spring in the steering. Whatever the case take it to your dealer. It might be under warrenty.

Your SRS (airbag system) 'self checks' itself everytime you start your car. The light glows while the system does a diognostic and if everything is OK the lamp goes off. If the lamp is staying 'on' this means that something is not meeting the arming prameters set in the system. This could be as simple as a corroded wire connector or as complex as a faulty airbag computer module. Bottom line is as long as the lamp is 'on' your airbag system is inopperative. Not the end of the world if you wear your seatbelt. You may try disconnecting your battery for a few minutes. This sometimes clears any stray fault codes in the computer but won't fix an electro/mechanical problem.

A fault exists in your air bag system causing the light to be on. You will need to have it checked to determine what the fault is. The air bags will not deploy in the event of an accident when the light is on.

Just a shot in the dark, my Mazda pickup did the same thing. After I thought about it for a minute, I had given my son a ride and he slid the passenger seat back. I looked under the seat and there are wires with connectors under there. I pushed on the connectors and the light went out. Hasn't done it since. The light comes on when I start the engine and goes off in a couple of seconds.

airbag systems are very complicated and you really should take it to a dealer where they have the proper equipment to diagnose the problem, if you don't, you could be at greater risk in an accident. I have a similar prob with my car and after spending much time reading the factory service manual decided there is no easy answer, it could be simple or complicated to figure out. mine will go to a dealer for repair.

Could be alot of reasons..none of them are a project that you should do yourself. I hate to say it but this should be brought to the attention of a mechanic. If you do something wrong it could go off ..costly and dangerous.
