Well on the coast where it is the hottest many people , in fact I would say most , have reverse cycle air conditioners.
Up in the mountain villages it is a lot cooler & large numbers of the population move between these villages & their homes on the coast.
Some people actually vacate their coastal homes altogether for the hottest months & live in the mountains......you can choose between water skiing in the morning & snow skiing in the afternoon !

we have air conditioning mostly everywhere but we do not have electricity...lol
central a/c is more common in big malls (cuz they have generators)
In house, split A/C units are used cuz when the electricity is cut off, we have big main generators that suplly 5 AMPs for $50/month to houses and that can make a small A/C unit run ok. We all have fans too in case of emergency... :P
otherwise, you drive up to the mountains (all over Lebanon) 30 min - 1hr drive depending on which mountain you need to reach and if the temp is 90F on the cost it would be 75F in the mountains
Or, you can go to the beach.
