unethical, not necessarily illegal. If its documented, she should be able to sue him as part of the divorce settlement.

Unfortunately, I don't believe that would constitute fraud. If you take out a joint loan with someone, you may be held liable if they default on the payments, run off with all the money leaving you in the lurch, etc.

What the husband did is unethical, but technically I don't believe it constitutes fraud.

That's why you must be very careful when taking out joint loans. You must know the other person or people very well, understand their spending habits, and be sure of their ability and willingness to pay back their share of the loan before you agree to take out a loan jointly with anyone.

its not fraud...since it is a joint account both parties involved are responsible for the loan. therefore both will have their credit effected by the loan. its a bad situation but if you care anything about your credit you will have to bite the bullet and pay. but if you don't care don't worry b/c it will affect his too. :)
