The question is too vague. Sometimes bias is intentional. If I turn on to a show named after Al Franken, Rush Limbaugh, Keith Olbermann, etc. -- I should know that I'm getting that person's biased opinion.
Then, you have to consider that some outlets are probably slanted more to the right and others to the left. On top of that, you have to add that people's definitions of liberal and conservative vary. What is leftist to one person might be moderate to another.
There are also numerous ways that the news might be manipulated in subtle fashion. Maybe I could put a bunch of information that criticizes Republicans in the front of an article and the information criticizing Democrats in the back. Even though the article is balanced, I know most people don't read to the end of an article.
Or, I might simply cover more stories critical of Democrats than Republicans. I could also use softer terminology or less emphasis when dealing with stories that would hurt my personal causes.
There are a bunch of other examples that I won't get in to so that you don't fall asleep. In general though, the mainstream American media - including only those purporting to report objective news and excluding those that admittedly editorialize - probably tilts not so much to the left or right as it does to stories that will generate interest and revenue.
So, the media will typically be anti-administration no matter who is in offense because "there's no news like bad news". Negative news during war is probably going to occur also because "if it bleeds it leads". These are generalities, but when it comes to ratings these sayings are usually correct.
At the end of the day, even if the media is more liberal than the American public, the American media still is not nearly as liberal as the western European media. Almost all of our coverage is conservative by their standards.

Well, if you look at newspapers, they have endorsed republicans for president more often than democrats in all but 2 elections since 1948. As far as television goes...ABC, NBC, and CBS go out of their way to give both sides; while FOX is totally republican. Surveys have found that talk radio is almost 90% conservative. In the last 20 years or so, you notice that the network news picks up most of the talking points you hear on Rush, Sean, and other right wing talk show hosts and repeats it over and over. So.....if anything the bias in the media is conservative. And it's ruining this country!

It depends. If you consider Fox news or The Washington Post I would say no. There also examples of some that could be said to be liberal biased. If you consult some of each you will have the truth. It will be in the middle.

No the opposite. The media is owned by republicans who keep most things out of the news. Think about it most newspapers are owned by corporations who give money to Republicans so why would they own newspapers. How many pro Bush stories do you read on yahoo? Alot.

Absolutely NOT! The only media bias is the cons. media (Rush, Hannity, FOX) You don't find any programs with the soul purpose of bashing cons. for 2 or more hrs. at a time.
Do you really believe that any news station that had an anti-Lib story wouldn't run it? The press wants hype they don't care who its about.
All my con. pals use that phrase, but not one can cite a specific example when challenged to come up with just one.
