In Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, why does Lenina wear green when she is a Beta? (Gammas are green)?

According to pg 63, Betas wear "mulberry-colored" items. Gammas wear green. Why does Lenina wear green, then, if she is a Beta? And where in the book does it specifically state that she is a Beta?

Lenina voices her dislike for the 'hideous colour khaki' (62) and, a few moments later, tells Henry 'my word ... I'm glad I'm not a Gamma' (63).

Lenina simply likes green.
