Cologne is the adultered alcohol based perfume which is more enhanced with as many mixed chemical fragrances that one likes. The manufacturers incorporate some essential oils into it say for eg. almond oil for keeping the skin soft and hydrated, some moisturisers, some add astringents to give a thigtening of the skin feeling. It's adutered on a hardcore level as the main ingredients are the chemicals which have natural odour or when one chemical gets mixed with the other produces a particular odour. So it isn't natural perfume.
A Perfume is the pure extract of oils from flowers, trees, fruits, or animal excretions or oils ( animal fats ) For eg. Musk deer lol musk is made from the scent these animals produce while they r on the heat as in when they want to mate these animals excrete some fluid from their genitals.
Oils when extracted are mixed with only the right amount of alcohol which is in it's pure form. While making perfume many precautions have to be taken so that the manufacturer doesn't lose it's fragrance to the nature. So to save the extracts special care has to be taken. The extraction initself is very tedious and very costly time consuming process. Even after u extract on a large scale the extracted oil will be 1/4 the quantity or even less of the main material u had taken to extract oil from. Thus when u go out to buy a pure perfume it's very very costly. But be sure the fragrance will be long lasting unline any cologne or deodrants. they just evapourate in time whereas a pure perfume will last for days.
There are adultered versions of perfumes too simply coz general people can't afford buying the pure perfumes lets say it's tooooooooooooo costly and unaffordable. So the rich and the rocking can only go for such perfumes. So as to not alienate general public the manufacturers came out with 20% fragrance and 60% alcohol and 20%water. Well I know all this coz I've studied Cosmetics and Perfumery Technology and maybe I was able to help u in ur query.
Oh wat i use is Passion from Avon , women of earth....but as far as i know i can bare only the pleasant faint odour which isn't harsh and too strong. I'm allergic to some harsh perfumes :(

I prefer one of 4 scents - cologne and aftershave:
alphabetically they are: Aramis; Armani; Canoe or Pierre Cardin.
The Goddess prefers Cie - Yes after 18 years she STILL has a couple atomizers. or Vanilla fields.

I think perfume is more pure and its more expensive. I use J.LO Glow or J.LO Still my other favorite is Ralph Lauren and Liz Clairborne Curve. Also I just bought Escada Summer Heat I was so dissapointed cause the scent didnt last all day!
