Can someone in the industry please tell me how much a 4 x 8 sheet of 1" plywood and 4 x 8 x 1/2" MDF would cost today?

With all due respect you can get EXACT prices at the locations that sell the material. HD/Lowes contractor help desks will be more than glad to price anything you have in mind.

There is no strict standard pricing, nor laws that govern that.

Then there is the issue of FINDING 1 inch plywood. Not so easy/ special order in most cases/ and definitely pricey. 1/2 MDF should be less than $10 per sheet. Beyond that 1 inch issue; price will also depend on TYPE you want. Sheathing/ Good one side/ two sides/ veneer over/ etc.

On a light hearted note, and again no offense meant; you bring up a valid issue in your last words. "Cost Today" Pretty much dependant on availability; etc. to a vendor. An example might be here in FL/ On a Sunny day I might be able to but 3/4 x 4 x 8 good one side Ply for $16 a sheet. When a Hurricane is imminent it might cost considerably more, if even available.

Doc is right about the plywood. As far as the MDF, price varies depending on the density. Even though it is Medium Density fiberboard, there are three densities, Low, Standard, and High. What is it going to be used for? Lowes/Home Despot, etc, generally carry only standard.
