I don't think intelligence can be learned. To me, intelligence is logic, the ability to reason things out. You can't learn how to think in that way. Being able to recite information given (which is what most people do in school) and being good at it isn't a sign of intelligence if you don't get what you're saying (that's just meorization). Being able to find connections and using what is known to create something totally new, or understand a completely different concept, to me, is the mark of intelligence.
One genius, to me, is just about every physicist and mathamathian out there. To be able to grasp such extradinary concepts of things that we can't see and is extremely abstract is so amazing to me.

There are many answers to your question.
First, people around an intelligent person usually tell others the erson is intelligent.
Second, an intelligence test may determine that a person has a high IQ, but that does not mean they have any social skills or that they will apply themselves appropriately.
Third, there are some that say EQ, emotional quotient, is another form f intelligence. These people know how to interact and work with people and may get the most out of them.
I have known a number of people who were intelligent in a variety of ways. Just as everyone is beautiful in his or her own way, so people are intelligent in their own way.

Most people (myself included) only have a vague definition of intelligence, but I think any definition would have to include ideas like the ability to learn new skills, to be able to adapt to new situations and environments, to solve problems by the application of logic and reason, to be creative etc.

Most people are intelligent to some degree, but people I would cite as possessing extraordinary intelligence would be Albert Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, Stephen Hawking, Noam Chomsky.

I think whether intelligence is learnt if it is innate can be included in the whole "Nature vs. Nurture" debate, that is, whether a person is who they are as a result of genetics or as a consequence of their surroundings and circumstances of their life.

Personally, I would think that it's a combination of the two. A person's genes will determine if they have the capacity for intelligence, and perhaps even to what degree. However, if that potential is not nurtured, it will count for nought.

Intelligence is the ability to objectively perceive, think and discern reality for oneself. What we do, then, with those perceptions is form meaningful concepts, and then connect those concepts into constructs that lead us to greater health as individuals and for the benefit of society and all that is connected. If you are alive, you have no choice but to perceive and learn and grow intelligent. Actively seeking a variety of experiences to explore, practicing tolerance and keeping an open, inquisitive mind leads to greater intelligence.
