Open the install.txt file that comes with your phpBB mod. That file is just a set of step-by-step instructions on how to install it. As a preview for what you're in for, look forward to opening many php files and adding, removing, and changing lines in them, then saving and uploading everything to your server.
It's not hard, really. You just have to be very careful not to mess up. Making a backup beforehand is a good idea if you want to be cautious.

Installing hacks for beginners sometimes works out, sometimes not. You must be very careful and back up your board database and files before installing any hacks. If you have no clue what I'm talking about, then hire someone to do it.
Most hacks come with a readme file telling you how to install.
