why don't we have the draft instead with no deferments. A whole bunch of kids champing at the bit for more war ought to sign up at the local recruiter

Nationalizing an industry doesn't automatically generate a whole lot of revenue. Taxing a private industry and it's employees tends to work better.

Yeah, cause the postal service, public school system, and other Government agencies are so efficient we need to nationalize something else.
And of course that worked so well for the now non-existent communist states.
