My dad died a 9 years ago, so he's not a problem. My mom has my brother and me, along with a rather devoted daughter-in-law. Also, she has several nieces and nephews who are quite fond of her. I can speak with certainty that if something happened to my brother and me, one of my cousins would look after my mom. I know this because we would do the same for any of my aunts or uncles.

I have outlived my parents. My mom passed away over 40 years ago, and my dad, over 24 years ago. I mention this in case there are some with living parents that don't appreciate them. Make time for them, and enjoy them. Ask questions. There are things that I would now ask that I didn't think of then. And as the question asks, make plans for their care in case you aren't around.

This is a very good question. My Mother was killed in an accident in 1957. My Mom,Dad's wife who he married when I was 16, died in 2001. My Dad is in bad health. I am caring for him now. I have two sisters and a brother who would care for Dad if he out lives me.
We have no guarantees. Last week, my Uncle(by marriage) lost his oldest son in an airplane crash....we just can't plan who will go first in this life.

I wish that was the case for me.. But unfortunately I lost my dad in 1990 and my mom in 1992. It is the hardest lost I have ever gone through. They were both in there 80s

My parents are both gone now and I am glad I was here to care for them in the last days.

No, it never occurred to me. My parents were in their 40's when I was born, so even though they both lived to good ages (86 and 89), they are both gone now.

Yes, it's occured to me, since both are in better health than I am.

I have two siblings who can take care of them if I die first, so that eases my mind somewhat.

Both my parents have passed away. So it is not relevant for me. Good question
