I'm moving to California to go to school next fall, and I want to be an actress and get an agent. So far I'd only been looking at schools that were in LA or under 30 minutes away. But do you actually have to be in the Los Angeles area to act, or can you be a few hours away? I didn't know if your agent would require you to live very close to be able to get to auditions and stuff. I'm asking cuz I would be able to look at alot more schools this way. Does anyone know?

You can live anywhere around. Granted, if you have to make an early morning audition and traffic is terrible, you will wish you lived close! Focus on school first and proximity to LA second. E-mail if you need any specifics. I know the area.

We'd love to have you in Sacramento. There are numerous community theater opportunities (need to join a guild or two), many, many actors here in town and we do some awesome musicals/comedies/drama. Away from the big city is a great place to start. San Francisco is also a boon for the aspiring actor, and it's beautiful there. California is a big state, so starting in a small town anywhere here would be a great beginning to your career. I wish you luck.

One must always be able to get to auditions, in a timely manner. If your parents are driving you to the auditions, it should be easy for you.
