By a 341-79 vote, the House passed a resolution praising the patriotism Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, and condemning a MoveOn.org ad that referred to Petraeus as "General Betray Us."
The liberal group's full-page ad appeared earlier this month in The New York Times and has served as a rallying point for Republicans. President Bush called the ad "disgusting" and criticized Democrats such as Sen. Hillary Clinton, the front-runner for the party's nomination, for being afraid of irritating the group.
Is there any way possible advocates of MoveOn.org and the ACLU could just disappear?
In a blinding majority, the House blasted MoveOn.org for the attack on Gen. Petraeus. Obviously it would be hard for Liberals to say the Republicans are trying to censure what MoveOn.org said.

The MoveOn ad was correct. Congress' stupidity doesn't change this, neither does the President's false outrage.
If you want the ACLU and MoveOn to "just disappear," then congratulations: you don't believe in the 1st Amendment to the United States Constitution, and you're a bad American.
Oh, and since that absurd move by Congress to attack MoveOn's freedom of speech, the organization has raised $1.6 million from new members. Thanks, Congress!

We have some exceptions to the freedom of speech such as not allowing someone to yell "fire" in a crowded theater or inciting riot. But until there is rioting in the streets I would be against any prohibition about any political opinion. I do believe they are very close to committing treason in a time of war and endangering our troops. But I will allow those that know the law to proceed. I remember the actions of Jane Fonda while I was in Vietnam and they never pursued her for what I believe exactly fit the definition of treason.

You know I actually looked at the ad and realized one thing. It is a question. Look at the ad and you will see it says General Patraeus or Betray Us. It is a question. I have also done some research and I found something about free speech (I may not agree with something but I will fight for your right to say it)
I also remember one other thing, he did not write the report, the White House wrote it and like a good salesman he sold it.
You do realize that the more you make a big deal of anything the more people will look at (ever seen traffic after an auto accident) The more people harp on MoveOn the more people will look at the site.
Finally I will say, I have never trusted Generals. If I want a fair report about Iraq I would go to a LT. or Corporal. Why, because they are the ones that are fighting. They are not the ones in HQ making strategies. Generals are not the ones that continue fighting day after day.
Now that I have said my piece I will move on to something else.

I don't understand how any true conservative can claim to be offended by the ad yet embrace a criticism of an exercise in free speech by the United States Congress. A true conservative holds dear the values and traditions of this country, one of which is defending the right of someone to express a point of view they find fault with. It's easy to support the freedom of speech of someone you agree with. The real test of your support for that freedom is if you are willing to support speech you personally find reprehensible.

this is a country of Freedoms and those organizations exist to maintain or give the impression that all is fair in love and war. They want to protect freedom of speech for example or freedom of the press or the NRA, the right to bear arms. As with most things, freedom has a price and a downside and it is about finding balance. I would say, however, the world is out of balance quite obviously.

I don't care. I do not support moveon.org. Personally I don't see why it is wrong to question the intentions of a man who is commander of armed forces in Iraq. But according to the Bush Administration, Questioning someone is Un-American and makes you a terrorist. If the alligations are correct, (and they are) why is everyone making a big deal about the fact they placed the ad, and not the fact that what was said is true?

Hillary and Obama seem like one of the rare supporters of MoveOn as far as this issue goes.

I wish the site would be shut down. People who go in there all the time just keep it in the new, ignore it,stop going in and it will be out of business shortly.
