I think if someone is ahead of their time then they are behaving too grown up. Children should be children.

I guess there are many ways of interpreting that statement from just the two people who have answered so far.
I will interpret it differently. I think someone is said to be ahead of their time when they make something or develop an idea that no one else ever thought of, but look at it and say, "Gee, I never thought of it that way, but somehow it makes sense." These people start a whole new era of thought, such as Darwin, Freud, and Einstein. I think Wozniak and Jobs proposed such thinking with the graphical operating system and the guy who developed Visicalc which eventually led to Excel. Galileo was way ahead of his time. I thought of the tank, the helicopter, and the parachute. He thought of things people could not even use in his time. Babbage thought of that with the first calculator. There were several ancient Greeks who also developed things and ideas, Euclid, Archimedes. That's my take on it.

Someone who has an idea for an invention before the technology becomes available to manufacture it.

Charles Babbage, Leonardo Da Vinci, etc...

We would have had computers decades ago and helicopters centuries earlier...

Well...listen to Yoko Ono/Plastic ono band album then listen to Melt Banana's - "bambi's dilemma" which came out this year...NEED I SAY MORE? SIMILAR...but Yoko is STILL a lot more modern sounding and terrifying in comparison...not only that, but theres a 37 year time difference!

(they both do very similar sounding stuff...but Yoko's still "out there" in comparison if you ask me!) - honestly...try them out if you can bare it, they've both got myspace sites with tracks on if you don't wanna get the full albums...

Drew Barrymore, put into horror films when she was a kid, turned to drugs as a teen - thankfully she is back looking good and in her time now.
