One thing I recommend for my clients to take when they are suffering with insomnia is cleavers, also can be known as Clivers,Goose foot,Bar weed,Grip grass,Catch weed,Love men,Everlasting friendship and Bed straw.
You can either make a weak tea from it,or you can make yourself a tincture.
To make a tincture you need a 100ml bottle, fill with Cleavers, then fill the bottle up with a good quality high alcohol content vodka.(you take it like a homoeopathic remedy). You should find cleavers in your garden as it technically is a weed.Cleavers is the weed that sticks to you when you walk by it,but just to be on the safe side you are better off googling an image of it first.
Cleavers is not to be taken if you are a diabetic or pregnant.
I hope I was of some help and I hope you are feeling better soon.Take care.

The main reasons for not being able to sleep are stress, you said you have this... Just reducing the stress is the best thing. One thing you should do is not worry about not sleeping, that just causes more stress... If you don't fall asleep within the first 15 min after going to bed, get up do something. watch tv, but not in bed, eat something, not in bed, make your bed only for sleeping...do everything else outside of the bed...that will help to train your body that when you go into bed it is only to sleep. When you lie down try to clear your mind, just try to think of nothing...or you can use some relaxing tec. start at your feet and work upwards, concentrating on each area and thinking of relaxing your mussels, tell yourself that with each mussel that relaxes you will become more and more tired and sleepy. by the time you reach your head, you will be totally relaxed and ready to clear your mind and go to sleep. This is a hypnotysim tec. that should work. Good Luck and pleasent Dreams...

Well, drinking an herbal tea -- like Traditional Medicinals' Organic Nighty Night (http://www.traditionalmedicinals.com/?id=32&pid=38) may help take off the edge. Also, consider taking a relaxing bath in lavender (real botanicals) bubble bath about an hour before bedtime.
I wish you the best in getting through this . . .

Insomnia is often caused by fear, stress, anxiety, medications, herbs, caffeine, depression or sometimes for no apparent reason. Make sure your bedroom is quiet and dark. Soak a tablespoon of mint leaves in a cup of water for an hour, drink every night. Check out http://useinfo-insomnia.blogspot.com/ for more info

You could try Melatonin. It comes in 1,3 and 5mg. 3-5mg's is usually the best dosage for adults.
Another is Valerian Root. It acts as a relaxer and tends to have the same side effects to aid in sleep. Since there are different varieties it's best to follow the directions.
These are herbal supplements that are sold at your local pharmacy.

I never slept good in my life until I took ambien CR. That is the absolute best sleep med in the world, non habit forming, you do tend to have conversations and not remember them or get up and eat in the middle of the night and not know about it till you wake up with crumbs in the bed or peanut butter in your hair, but YOU SLEEP GOOD!! I have tried Melatonin and all that jazz, i need the hypnotics to put me out. I think they are amazing! My step mom did smear mustard on her phone and tried to eat it once so you may just want to lock your bedroom door if you use it, or atleast put a video camera in your kitchen before you go to bed just so you can watch the funny stuff you do. It is SO worth it!

I highly recommend a juice called "MonaVie". It contains the acai berry = the highest known antioxidant on the planet. A huge portion of MonaVie drinkers report that they sleep much better, faster, and more soundly while drinking MonaVie. You only need 2 ounces in the morning, and 2 in the afternoon. If you take it faithfully, you should experience much better sleeping. You can read all about it on the website below:
