Say I wanted to go back in time and live with the Romans. I've heard theories about going into space and coming back to find you're grandchildren's grandchildren are having their grandchildren, but I want to know if it will ever be possible to just press a few buttons and go back in time.

If it is truly impossible, then what makes it impossible? This is a purely theoretical question by the way.

With the going into space thing, that is because time and space are different at different velocities, say the person was travelling very very fast then they would have a significantly different time scale. So it would not so much be travelling into the future, but experiencing time at a different rate to others. And coming back having less time passed for you. I don't think it will be possible to go back into time, not like that anyway. I thought perhaps if you do go back into time then you may appear in the past of another universe, so as not to affect things, as in if you had gone back in time, what if you did something that stopped you going back in time in the first place?
