If I have 2006 model year car, Hyudai Accent to be exact, about how often should the fuel injectors be cleaned? Is it based on mileage or do mechanics look at the buildup and judge that way?

Unless you're having specific injector problems, you don't need professional cleaning. In fact, some manufacturers have issued TSBs advising dealers NOT to do it on a regular basis--only when it's evident that an injector is plugged.

Newer injectors have deposit resistant coatings that can be damaged by the really harsh cleaners used by the pros.

If you want a really good consumer add-in cleaner, Chevron Techron is the best there is.

If you do a lot of short trips (2 miles or less) or all stop and go driving, then add a bottle once every 3 months.Otherwise, twice a year is plenty.

The more you drive, the less you need injector cleaning. That assumes, of course, that you're buying name brand gas. The cheap gas is a whole 'nother story.

your car is young (I bet as far as mileage goes too).

The answerers are right because a mechanic at my job also said that gases these days clean your fuel injectors. The bottle stuff is good too.

I get it professionally cleaned every year but then you can buy fuel injector cleaners in the store and just one of those to your gas tank twice a month.

you can buy fuel injector cleaner at any local walmart or auto parts store. all you do is add it when u have a full tank of gas. i usually do it to my truck two to three times per yr. its a lot cheaper if you do it on your own.

Just add a bottle of Techron II every 3 months. You will find it at any Chevron Gas Station.
